ABOUT THE ARTIST

I am a watercolor artist who was born in New England but whose heart now is at home in the West. While here in Montana I returned to making art as a way to remain close to my sister Sue in Vermont. Her photos compel me to paint from them -- a maple tree hung with old-time sap buckets, a lane wreathed in fiery autumn color. Montana calls for a different color palette: the enormous, blue sky over my home, tender spring green fields, summerís gold rolls of hay, violet shadows behind a cottontail in my snowy yard.

My art teachers include Mike Capser, Steve Kuennen, Lavonne Rice-Gordon, John Pollock, Robin Earles, Caroline Buchanan, Connie Herberg, and Elizabeth LaRowe.

My work has been displayed in Wyoming at the Sagebrush Community Art Center (Sheridan), and in Montana at the Carbon County Art Guild (Red Lodge), Sandstone Gallery, Sunrise Gallery, Toucan Gallery, Gallery 15, as well as various commercial locations, all in Billings, Montana.

THE ARTIST'S STATEMENT

My watercolor paintings are softly realistic. I depict landscapes, abandoned rooms, herons and irises. I am driven to find the essence of the familiar and present it in an alluring way. I love the iconic power of leaf shapes, a heronís curved neck, a seashell. While making art I feel that the act of painting is like a gyroscope keeping my spirit in motion.
