Barbara Butler was a four year student at the Hathaway Atelier in Excelsior, Minnesota where she studied traditional and classical methods of drawing and painting. She moved to Billings 15 years ago. Her most current achievements are as follows:

Juried in as a member of Oil Painters of America and was invited to place an ad and photo in Art of The West Magazine along with other Oil Painting of America artists in the Spring of 2009

Featured artist in Great Lakes Airlines Peaks & Plains Magazine, Spring 2008.

Won 3^rd in the Audubon Bird Show at Rocky Mountain College, Spring 2008.

Juried into The Richardson 75 International Still Life & Floral Competition 2009.

Had a one man show at The MANHEIM Gallery in Cottonwood, Arizona in 2009.

Was selected in the top 40 of Wyoming’s Conservation Stamp Competition in one of the years she competed and juried into the shows on other years.

Juried into many competitions in Montana, Wyoming and Minnesota and has numerous ribbons.

Participates in auctions and festivals throughout Montana.

Juried into The Yellowstone Art Museum’s consignment gallery 2010.

ARTIST STATEMENT:

“Painting is my passion as well as my job and my goal is to teach and grow as an artist. Although I am trained as a realist, I admire loose strokes and use of color of the impressionists and try to focus on that while I am painting. It helps to paint from life whenever possible but I usually finish a painting in my Billings home studio. Besides landscapes and animals I also do portraits and paint in oil, watercolor and sometimes pastel”.
